with Ann & John,
we visited the Virginia Living Museum
in Newport News
we arrived just in time for a show,
which shared with us the following animals:
owl
skink
snake
(the show was more specific with names,
but i've forgotten then already -
this snake is noted for its excellent climbing)
inside the museum was
the Chesapeake Bay Touch Tank,
where we saw this horseshoe crab,
top and...
...bottom!
we also touched a whelk
we saw a variety of beautiful animals,
including lion fish
puffer fish
(doesn't this one look like it's smiling?)
jellyfish
anemones and clownfish
and tree frogs
(i sort of just made that name up,
but it was a frog - or maybe a toad -
in a tree so the name seems apt)
the next day, we went on our own
to the Nauticus Museum and USS Wisconsin
the battleship was commissioned during WWII,
but was used as recently as
Operation Desert Storm
"Wisky," as she is called,
has been in use as a museum ship,
adjacent to Nauticus,
the National Maritime Center (Norfolk, VA),
since 2009
